The Triangle Vegetarian Society (TVS) is pleased to announce its annual Thanksgiving feast and raffle will be held at Cafe Parizäde in Durham on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28, from 1:00 pm through 4:00 pm. Cafe Parizäde is one of the Triangle's finest restaurants with a gourmet flair for fresh ingredients with Mediterranean influences.

The all-inclusive price will be $20 for current TVS members, $23 for non-members, $9 for children ages 5-10, and free for children under 5. Reservations are strongly recommended as this event is our biggest of the year and has sold out in the past. You can make a reservation by calling or emailing Rondy at 919-572-0093 or

Our tentative menu begins with a Fall Antipasto Buffet Table. There will be a quinoa salad with olives, shallots, pine nuts, sundried tomatoes, and garlic in a base of the lovely crunchy grain quinoa, with arugula and rosemary-carmelized pear. There will be fall lettuces with pumpkin seed-cider dressing; roasted fall vegetables; citrus couscous with dried fruits and garbanzo beans; and grilled asparagus. We plan to have a Mediterranean minty fatoush salad with toasted flat bread; hominy succotash with lima beans, squash, and citrus zest; wheatberry-wild rice salad with lavender-blueberry vinaigrette; breads, crustinis, and pita with hummus and baba ganouj; marinated olives; and spiced pecans.

For main courses, we are tentatively planning on wild mushroom risotto with seared tempeh; lentil-brown rice cakes with roasted turnips and mustard greens; spanakopita with golden raisins, sundried tomatoes, and pine nuts; artichoke ravioli in roasted tomato-saffron sauce; and braised sweet potatoes with leeks and vegan maple "butter". Look for braised wheat gluten sauteed with yellow squash and sweet onions; basil-roasted garlic whipped potatoes; mushroom-onion gravy, apple-walnut stuffing and fresh raspberry-cranberry relish; and country cornbread. Desserts we're planning to serve include fresh seasonal fruits, phyllo cookies, pumpkin pie, cherry crisp, and cinammon apple pie.

Apple cider, water, herbal tea, and coffee will be available as part of the meal. If, instead or in addition, you wish to order alcohol or soft drinks, wait staff will help you, but you will need to pay your waiter when s/he delivers your drink.

All the food will be strictly vegan with no animal, egg or dairy products, and no honey or white sugar will be used. We will try to accommodate dietary restrictions, especially if you let us know in advance.

We will have a generous raffle with prizes ranging from gift certificates from area businesses to cases of whole food products, fine chocolates, and much more. People can arrive to eat anytime between 1:00 and 4:00, and the raffle is likely to be around 2:30 or 3:00. After the meal, there may be a reception at a nearby home.
