Seven of us went to Trilussa la Trattoria on Saturday, April 16, 2005, for dinner. Trilussa is a small Italian restaurant with a charming atmosphere and very good food, suitable as a place for a special dinner. The walls were painted with storefronts with Italian names, and there were Italian art works on shelves around the room. One reviewer described the decor as "reminiscent of a small Italian village with balconies and lanterns."

The menu had a separate vegetarian section, and the waitress told us that most of the vegetarian dishes could be made vegan. The vegetarian entrees were $12 and $13. Very good bread with butter was served, and the waitress brought us balsamic vinegar and olive oil upon request. Most reviewers described the food as very good, and the appetizer of stuffed mushrooms "with delicate hints of lemon" was consistently rated excellent. The appetizer is a generous serving with 8 large mushrooms, and one reviewer commented it would be nice if they had a half order available. They have a decent wine list, with several reasonably priced selections.

There were a couple of dishes with lower marks - the marinara sauce served with the gnocchi was described as "uneventful and overwhelmed the dish", and some of the asparagus included with a dish of vegetables and rice was inedibly tough, although the reviewer said the dish was very good otherwise.

Our waitress was helpful and pleasant, although a little slow to refill our drinks as the restaurant got more crowded. Once the restaurant had filled up it was little noisy and it was hard to hear everyone at the table.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable dining experience and is highly recommended.
